Obiettivi formativi
Il corso (in lingua inglese) fornirà un'introduzione ad alcuni problemi metodologici e critici relativi alla storia delle religioni dell'Asia Orientale, con particolare riferimento al tema del rapporto fra religioni dell’Asia Orientale e modernità.
This course (in English) will introduce some critical and methodological problems concerning East Asian history of religions, paying specific attention to the relationship between East Asian religions and modernity.

CONOSCENZA E COMPRENSIONE. Il corso introdurrà alcuni temi critici di grande importanza nella storia delle religioni moderne in Asia Orientale. In particolare, saranno considerati problemi quali: l’applicazione del concetto moderno di religione in Giappone e le conseguenze storico-culturali sulle religioni dell’Asia Orientale, l’applicazione di categorie europee alla storia delle religioni in Asia Orientale, il modernismo buddhista, l’invenzione delle tradizioni religiose, il concetto di esperienza nel Buddhismo moderno.
CAPACITÀ DI APPLICARE CONOSCENZA E COMPRENSIONE, AUTONOMIA DI GIUDIZIO E ABILITÀ COMUNICATIVE. Gli studenti sapranno cogliere gli elementi essenziali dei testi proposti; sapranno collocare criticamente vari aspetti dei dibattiti critici relativi alle religioni dell’Asia Orientale nel contesto di uno sviluppo storico-culturale generale. Sapranno inoltre esporre oralmente i contenuti proposti ed elaborare giudizi autonomi circa i meccanismi critici legati allo studio delle religioni dell’Asia Orientale.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING. The lectures will introduce some critical themes of great importance in the history of religions of modern East Asia. In particular, the following problems will be deepened: the application of the modern concept of religion in Japan and the historical and cultural consequences on East Asian religions; the application of European categories to the study of East Asian religious history, Buddhist modernism, the invention of religious traditions, the concept of religious experience in modern Buddhism.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING, MAKING JUDGEMENTS, COMMUNICATION SKILLS: the students will understand the essential aspects of the themes treated in during the course, they will critically place various aspects of the critical debates concerning East Asian religions. Moreover, they will discuss about the themes presented and elaborate autonomous judgements on the study of East Asian religions.

Modalità di insegnamento
DIDATTICA INTEGRATA
L’insegnamento (36 ore complessive) sarà strutturato in modalità mista (sincrono e asincrono). Modalità in sincrono: si forniranno lezioni online in sincrono (con registrazione consultabile dai soli iscritti al corso), in cui si svolgeranno attività seminariali, di approfondimento e discussione sul materiale presentato in asincrono. Modalità in asincrono: saranno caricate su piattaforma Moodle alcune lezioni online. La proporzione fra lezioni in sincrono e in asincrono non è al momento prevedibile. In linea di massima, si prevede di fornire del materiale in asincrono, che dovrà essere visionato dagli studenti prima della lezione in sincrono, in cui si lavorerà per approfondire, applicare, interpretare il materiale fornito in precedenza, secondo la metodologia della classe capovolta (flipped classroom). Inoltre, verranno organizzati dei forum e dei lavori di gruppo su piattaforma Moodle che potranno essere riconosciuti come parte dell’esame finale.
Integrated teaching.
The course will be developed in blended modality (both synchronous and asynchronous). Synchronous lectures: according to the situation at the moment of the lectures, online synchronous lectures will be provided (with recorded lectures for those registered to the course). In synchronous teaching, there will be seminars, discussions, and presentation of additional material related to the asynchronous lectures. Asynchronous lectures: Some lectures will be uploaded on the Moodle platform. At the moment, the proportion between synchronous and asynchronous lectures is not predictable. Generally speaking, the asynchronous material should be studied by students before the synchronous lectures, in which all the material provided will be deepened, applied, discussed and interpreted, according to the methodology of the flipped classroom. In addition, some forums and group wworks on Moodle will be organized in order to be recognized as parts of the final exam.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
L’apprendimento degli argomenti delle lezioni verrà testato attraverso un esame orale. Nel corso dell’esame, verranno approfonditi tre argomenti, il primo dei quali a scelta dello studente, mentre gli altri due saranno a scelta del docente. Per ciascun argomento, saranno possibili più domande, volte a individuare il livello di comprensione degli argomenti da parte dello studente. Il voto dell’esame sarà espresso in trentesimi (minimo 18/30, massimo 30L/30). Data la natura complessa della materia, l’esame orale ha lo scopo di verificare il livello di preparazione raggiunto dallo studente, anche nel caso in cui il candidato non abbia nel suo portfolio corsi liceali o universitari relativi ad argomenti filosofici o religiosi.
Learning will be tested through an oral examination. During the exam, three subjects will be discussed: the student will choose the first one; the professor the other two. For each subject, various questions would be possible, whose aim is to understand the level of knowledge reached by the student. The examination grade will be ranged between 18/30 (minimum) to 30L/30 (maximum).

Il programma verterà sulla questione critica della modernità nello studio delle religioni dell’Asia Orientale, i suoi problemi e prospettive; il modernismo religioso, l’invenzione delle tradizioni e l’esperienza religiosa nel Buddhismo moderno.
The program will be focused on the critical question of modernity in the study of East Asian religions, its problems and perspectives, including religious Modernism and the invention of traditions and religious experience in modern Buddhism.
